After reading an article in the Huffington Post titled A Lesson From Steve Jobs: Arts And Technology Education Are Related by Inderpal Grewal sparked an idea I never thought of before. The article discussed the idea that Arts and Humanities and Social Sciences are all integral. I am a major supporter of the Arts and believe that those who participate in the arts tend to do better in school. However I could never place the arts under the umbrella of technological advancement.
Steve Jobs discusses how he dropped out of college. Instead he solely took classes that was of interest to him. He is a perfect example of a man appreciating education and not just striving for that A at the end of the semester. He examines how the creation and design of the Mac was based on his classes in calligraphy. If it was not for his calligraphy classes then the Mac may not be such a prominent figure in our society today. The Mac is known for it's innovation and different design.
The article also throws out the idea of culture industries such as music, television, and film are collaborating with science and technology to become what it is today. Science and Math may be essential for advancement. However, Arts and Humanities is essential for innovation.
